(September 11th, Tropicana Resort & Casino, Atlantic City) After a summer break, Lou Neglia’s Ring of Combat returned to provide fight fans with another dose of beatings, blood, knockouts and submissions courtesy of some of the Northeast’s best. But this event – ROC’s 26th – was ultimately about three championship belts, and when the dust settled, Victor O’Donnell gave up his middleweight strap to Team Serra/Longo killer Costas Phillippou, Chris Liguori defended his lightweight title with a decision over Dwayne Shelton, and the unstoppable Ricardo Romero needed about a round and a half to nearly rip off opponent Richie Lictawa’s arm for the heavyweight crown. Highlights of the night included:
• TSMMA’s Louis Gaudinot, who visited unbridled destruction on Jeff Cressman to earn the TKO win.
• The back-and-forth battle between O’Donnell and Phillippou. Regardless of who won and who lost, both men came out looking like the two best middleweights in the Northeast – and that’s nothing to be ashamed about.
• Advanced Martial Arts’ Ricardo Romero, who dominated en route to another championship performance.
