As if numerous flights, transfers, and bus rides were not tiring enough for athletes, airline Iberia’s strike and mechanical difficulties on another airline further complicated the US Team’s travel plans, causing some team members to arrive much later than expected, and with far greater difficulty. However, Monday night, all team members had made it and were making preparations for Tuesday morning weigh-ins, with some team members resting after their long journey, and others industriously jumping rope in sauna suits to drop those few extra pounds.
Tuesday morning, everyone was ready and geared up in their official US National Team warm-ups provided by Fighter’s Inc., KOBC t-shirts, and ClinchGear hoodies. It was a tedious wait in line to weigh-in, with numerous competitors from all divisions in both Ring Sports and Mat Sports, but the US Team did it in style in their Top Ten warm-ups. Much to everyone’s relief, the whole team made weight on their first step onto the scale, and team members then posed for team photos with the US flag.
After this, fighters and coaches dashed off to the large dining room in the lovely Barcelo Punta resort for the breakfast buffet, happily rehydrating and replenishing their bodies before getting some rest and a fitting in a bit of sight seeing before the begin of the competition.
