Liverpool, NY
With difficulties in in keeping up with his school
work, Kevin Van Nostrand's parents signed him up for
martial arts at the age of 8 years old. He started
competing after winning several ‘in-house’
tournaments, and his coaches encouraged him to move
forward with his training. Currently training at
Impact
Martial
Arts and Fitness, his “home away from home,” he
credits the gym to being the best in the world. With
an atmosphere that is peaceful, calm, and respectful,
coaches that constantly give a positive influence over
his life and teammates unlike any other, it is easy to
see how he holds a 13-1-2 record and won the WKA
Northeastern Light-Middleweight Champion in October
2011. After a very success run of wins, Kevin was
offered a WKA World Amateur Light-Middleweight Title
vs. (22-4) Axel Pingarron from Team Evolution, IL. The
fight was contested May 11th, 2013 at Thunder &
Lightening, in Syracuse, NY with Kevin winning by way
of TKO in the 3rd round.![](images/fotm/17/Kevin3_FOTM.jpg)
While training, Kevin visualizes himself “against a
giant pit bull that will eat me alive if I fail to
prepare myself for the war at hand.” His trainer,
Sheehan Andrello, has a talent of being able to read
the opponents strengths and weaknesses, which he
feels, gives him the upper hand in the training room
and the ring. While in the ring he is unpredictable
and can zone in clearly to his coach’s instructions.
“Being able to fight is only half the battle. The
other half is being trainable and following of the
coach’s leads.” Kevin’s last three fights have all
ended by way of TKO.
Outside of martial arts, Kevin’s hero is his father,
who recently passed away. He also enjoys spending time
with his family (in which he is the 6th out of 7
siblings), training his dog and relaxing by the pool.
His advice for new fighters: “Goals set are goals you
get,” “No matter what you do – you will get hit,” and
“Everyone has a game plan until they get punched in
the face.”
