The WKA is proud to recognize it’s fighter of the
month as Sitan Gym NY’s Jess Eng.
A resident of
New York city Jess actively competes globally in the
art of Muay Thai having just recently placed as a gold
medalist in the 2017 IMFA Pan American Championships
on October 7th.
With an impressive 14 and 4
Muay Thai record, some of her additional championship
accolades include being crowned the WKA 102 lbs.
amateur Muay Thai champion, the TBA Muay Thai classic
flyweight champion, the WKA 105 lbs. amateur Muay Thai
champion and in 2011 becoming a WKA North American
amateur championship silver medalist.
The
primary style of martial arts that just practices is
Muay Thai, she started training in martial arts at the
age of 22. When asked about her path in the martial
arts Jess stated “I’ve always been interested in
learning martial arts from a young age but didn’t have
the resources for the opportunity. I took kickboxing
classes that were offered in college and then was
introduced to a Muay Thai gym by a close friend”.
Joining Sitan Gym is where Jess found her love for
the sport she went on to state that “it’s where I met
so many great people throughout the years that have
become family...my trainer and mentor is Aziz Nabih,
he’s the best!
Regarding training for a fight,
Jess stated that her “fight camp consist of Muay Thai
training along with running and lifting five days a
week”. The Muay Thai training is 2 1/2 to 3 hours
a day with the lifting about two times a week.
When not competing Jess works as a designer for Calvin
Klein underwear. She enjoys spending quality time with
family and friends, traveling or taking in a comedy
shows when she’s not working or training.
Jess
is excited and looking forward to a rematch against
accomplished Muay Thai fighter Kit Fung this December.
Jess went on to say regarding this fight “we fought
four years ago...it was an exciting fight then and
should be an exciting fight now”!
Jess has
current goals including “continuing to train and
improve as a fighter, I am constantly working on
fine-tuning everything; training hard and trying to
get as many fights as I can and stay active; a current
near future goal is IFMA world championships in 2018”.
When asked if she had any advice for new
fighters Jess said “stay focused and always train;
never skip out on anything that is asked; work and
train hard in camp; trust in your coaches and
trainers”.

career thus far with whats sure to be a bright future
on the horizon.
